Spring is here!
It’s time to get our hands and feet in the dirt.
One of the things I love about spring is the time I get to spend with our boys in the garden. In this electronic age, gardening is a great opportunity for meaningful family connection.
Every year we plan our garden using reference magazines like Organic Gardening and The Whole Seed Catalog.
The wonder of seeing a garden grow has sparked their interest. We’ve discussed the reason plants need sun, how plants “drink” water, why worms are good for plants. Before I knew it, we were talking about composition, photosynthesis and so much more.
Last year, I added a little math to our gardening time by measuring how much plants are growing from week to week and counting the flowers on each plant.
Another fun way to supplement the experience is by creating a photo journal of the plants you are growing with your kids. They love it even more when I let them be the photographer.
Happy Gardening.
love & kisses,
Mika Jolie
