Mika Jolie: It’s been awhile since we’ve done a character interview. Today, we have Financier Nick DeMarco from Wine & Whiskey here with us. (Reads notes). You’re quite complex. Let’s see, alleged ties to organized crime. You’re arrogant, stubborn, and obsessed with the quiet, gentle woman who may not be as delicate as she seems. (Chuckles) Let’s give Mr. DeMarco a warm welcome. Alright Nick, I’m going to ask you a slew of questions, answer those you are comfortable with.
Mika: What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Nick: Not becoming like my bastard father.
Mika: No love there, uh. What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Nick: Making Shae smile. If she’s happy, then so am I.
Mika: Do you have any siblings? If so, will we have an opportunity to get to know them better?
Nick: I’m an only child.
Mika: You’re very serious Nick. I bet I can get you to smile with my next question. What is the quality you most like in a woman?
Nick: Only one? (Laughs.) Probably resiliency. I love a woman who’s calm even when I’m not. Especially when I’m not. I can be pretty difficult to put up with. But, somehow, Shae brings out the best in me. Or, at least enough to make me tolerable.
Mika: (Smiles) See, I even got a laugh out of you. Is your heroine a good kisser?
Nick: Yeah, definitely. Her lips… (Blows out a deep breath.) We’ll leave it at that.
Mika: (Chuckles) When did you know you were in love with your Shae?
Nick: The first time I met her. Some motherfucker was bothering her. I kicked his ass out, and I wanted to make sure she was okay before I left. (Smiles and shakes his head.) She’s tougher than she looks. After a few minutes she was fine, showing me some exercise move she likes. I couldn’t walk away.
Mika: I can’t wait to interview Shae. It takes a special woman to make Nick DeMarco so expressive. A few more questions for you. What is your greatest fear?
Nick: Disappointing her. She somehow thinks… (Scrubs his hands down his face and nods.) I want to be the man she thinks I am.
Mika: Interesting. I definitely need Shae’s view point here. What is your greatest extravagance?
Nick: Probably my whiskey. It’s about two grand a bottle, but so worth it.
Mika: Whoa! And I thought I had expensive taste. You have me beat by a few zeroes. Which living person do you most despise?
Nick: Not sure if you can technically count him as alive after being in coma for so long, but my father.
Mika: I wish we could explore your relationship with your dad a bit more Nick because a man tends to inherit many of his father’s traits. (Exhales) Another time. What is your greatest regret?
Nick: Not killing two people who deserved to die.
Mika: (Arches a brow). Another interesting answer. Do you believe in the idiom live by the sword, die by the sword?
A state of utter silence.
Mika: (Smiles) Let’s try another question. Which talent would you most like to have?
Nick: I’ve always wanted to play golf but I don’t have the time or the patience to learn. Maybe someday…
Mika: Where would you like to live?
Nick: I’m not picky. Somewhere warm would be good. As long as Shae’s with me, I’m home.
Mika: What do you regard as the lowest depth of misery?
Nick: Being without Shae. (Shakes his head.) No, even worse, seeing her suffer, especially if it’s because of me.
Mika: What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
Nick: Again, only one? (Bitter laugh before his fingertips tap on the table edge.) I guess I’ll say stubborn. It’s hard for me to let things go, good and bad.
Mika: Who is your favorite hero of fiction?
Nick: When I was a kid, I liked Batman. He was slick, you know? Came out of nowhere, saved the people in danger, and then disappeared again. I always wanted to have a car like the Batmobile.
Mika: (Smiles) Batman is my favorite superhero too. Well, Batman and Storm. Who are your heroes in real life?
Nick: The people who work at the Domestic Violence Foundation. They help women who think they have no way out, nowhere to go. There’s no worse feeling than being trapped, miserable, terrified. To always be afraid. They give the women, and often their children, a way out, to get away from their abusers.
Mika: (Nods) I totally understand that. I know many women who have or are still in that position. I love that about you Nick. (The two shake hands). Thank you so much for stopping by at MikaJolie’s Lounge. Want to learn more about Nick DiMarco everyone, pick up a copy of Wine & Whiskey today.
