Whether you are talking about the authors of romance classics, Austen and Bronte, or those modern day giants, Nora Roberts, Danielle Steel, Judith McNaught, the image conjured accompanying romance author names is one predominantly consistent of white females. And no insult meant to any of them, I think it’s clear that these women are successful by and large because they are incredibly talented, but where is the diversity? Where are woman of color represented in the genre? It took a little digging but I’ve come up with a few lists of must read romance authors of color, and also have added links for some others below. The world is so small already. Let’s try and toss in a little variety.
