A book is a gift you can open again and again…
I think it’s fairly obvious that two of my favorite things to do in the whole world are read and write. My children, luckily, feel the same. Amazon one-click is my downfall when it comes to e-books and my kids’ shelves are FULL of books given as gifts, handed down by friends and family, and those checked out at our local library. But every once in a while, it dawns on me that there are so many people in the world- both adults and children- who do not have these luxuries. They don’t have Amazon Prime. Their shelves aren’t packed full of old favorites and shiny new books with the spines barely cracked. And because of circumstances, they may not have the time, money, or ability to read whenever the mood strikes. So what can we do to help?
I’ve scoured the web and found some resources for the best Reading/Literacy related charities. Whether you are giving of your money, old books, or new books, or your time, there are a multitude of places out there that can greatly benefit from your help. And a ton of children, and adults, too, that will be extremely grateful for your donations.
