What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Haven: I never had much money. My father and I lived off the streets of England’s Birmingham—well, until Henri took me to Greystone Manor. So I would have to say my greatest compliment was surviving. A seemingly boring answer, I suppose, but if you read His Haven, you’ll understand what I mean.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
Haven: Feeling safe and being with the ones you care about. There was a time in my life when I didn’t know if I’d survive the night… Safety is essential to my happiness.
Considering the time period of His Haven, do you feel your love/sex scenes were hot enough?
Haven: They were heated… I was a little embarrassed that Miss Brooks included Avrum’s and my time together in the book, but she insisted it was part of our story and should be written. Even though Henri is gone, I was still a little worried that he might somehow read it and know what happened between us, but then I remember it’s a foolish thought. Henri will always haunt my thoughts that way, I think.
Anything you have liked done differently by the author?
Haven: I wish she would have added or at least told me more about what happened to Emma. She assures me my young maid friend is safe and with Lysander and that their story consumes the next book in the series, but I still worry about her. She’s so young, and I had promised her freedom… I suppose we both got it, just in different ways.
Any particular scene you enjoyed the most?
Haven: This may seem strange for a woman to say, but I really enjoyed the ending scene—the big twist at the end. Miss Brooks did an excellent job capturing my feelings during the chase… All the snow, the blood, the pain, then the sudden burst of strength I felt—I won’t say more. You’ll just have to read it.
Is your hero a good kisser?
Haven: What a bold question! But, yes… Avrum knows how to make my knees weak. Even though his kind—vampires–scared me, I couldn’t resist the natural pull my body had toward him. I still can’t.
When did you know you were in love with your hero/heroine?
Haven: I always thought Avrum was handsome, but I was repulsed with what he was. I thought he was like Henri, but I was wrong—very wrong. I knew my feelings were stronger than I wanted to admit when he swore to protect me, after he found out the truth about his leader. The look on his face—the sorrow, fear, regret, and love—it awoke something inside me.
Did your story end too soon?
Haven: I don’t believe so. Miss Brooks stuck to the action. Avrum and I are being mentioned in the second book, so you’ll get to read some more about our new lives at Greystone.
