From childhood favorites like Peter Rabbit, to classics like Hamlet’s Ophelia, there are a number of books being made into movies this year that everyone from young to old is sure to enjoy. Thrillers, time-traveling, books off the bestseller list, the movies star newcomers to the screen, as well as actors and actresses that make the word blockbuster seem lame.
I would be lying if I said I wasn’t just a tad excited about the third FSOG sequel. I mean, the book had a critical impact on the romance genre. So if I see it, it counts as research, right? I’m curious about the Mary Poppins remake/sequel as I’ve always adored the original, but I think that Julie Andrews had a lot to do with its success.
There are definitely several books I’ve read and loved on the horizon, so I’m nervous about movie adaptations- The Bell Jar, Little Women and Ann Patchett’s Bel Canto, to name a few, but I’ll give them a try. Personally, the movie I’m most looking forward to seeing this year is based on a book that had a profound effect on me. Ruta Sepetys’ Between Shades of Grey was poignant, heartbreaking and captivating. The writing was exquisite and the tale was tragic but incredible so I’m looking forward to seeing how the movie adaptation, Ashes in the Snow, portrays all of those emotions.
What are you looking forward to?
